Social Ecology & Animist Drawing Games with Owen Geary
š
Monday, October 26thĀ Ā 7:00 PM to 9:15 PM
atĀ Tiny Arts Supply, 612 Woodward Avenue
Join local Ridgewood artist Owen Geary for an experimental workshop exploring the connections between society, nature, and art through the lens of Social Ecology.
Social Ecology is a philosophical movement that examines how social hierarchies and the domination of people are connected to humanity's relationship with the natural world.
The movementās founder, radical ecologist Murray Bookchin, proclaimed: āThe domination of nature by man stems from the domination of human by human.ā
We'll begin with a brief discussion of its history and the fundamentals of dialectical natural thought, then put these ideas into practice through a series of playful Animist Drawing Games.Ā
Together, we'll explore new ways of seeing and drawing our relationships with the living world, culminating in a finished pastel artwork. Participants will leave with their artwork and notes for future creative projects.
No experience necessary! This workshop is open to beginners and experienced artists alike. All materials provided.
