Intro to Native Garden Design with Matt Garczynski
📅 Sunday, June 7
⏰ 1pm - 4pm
📍 Tiny Arts Supply
6-12 Woodward Avenue, Ridgewood, Queens
Join ecological designer Matt Garczynski for an inspiring workshop on creating beautiful, ecologically rich native plant gardens... whether you’re working with a balcony, a backyard, a stoop, or a street tree bed.
In this beginner-friendly class, you’ll explore how to design intentional, low-maintenance garden spaces that support pollinators, birds, and beneficial insects. Through drawing exercises, planning prompts, and guided discussion, you’ll learn how to translate both aesthetic and ecological principles into living, dynamic designs rooted in the natural world.
We’ll cover how to:
- Develop diverse, resilient planting palettes
- Work with native plants that encourage local ecology
- Create gardens that feel alive, intentional, and environmentally meaningful
- Apply simple design strategies to real spaces of any size
Participants are encouraged but not required to bring basic information about their own garden area - measurements, quick sketches, and/or site photos to personalize their planning.
You don't need to have a garden space to plan, you are welcome to attend just to learn.
Walk away with the confidence and skills to begin designing your own native plant garden for people and wildlife.
No experience necessary; all materials provided. If you own an engineer scale ruler, bring it, if not, there will be plenty to share.
